Our History

Community Strength. Local Spirit.

The American Institute of Architects was founded in 1857 by 13 architects committed to advancing the profession and establishing higher standards of practice. Today, it has grown into a network of more than 101,000 architecture and design professionals supported by over 200 chapters around the world.

AIA San Joaquin carries that work forward here in the Valley. Serving Fresno, Madera, Kings, and Tulare Counties, our chapter creates a local connection to the education, advocacy, resources, and professional community of AIA.

As our region changes, we continue to bring its architecture professionals together to exchange ideas, strengthen their work, and advocate for design that serves our communities.
